Weight in Consciousness: What is it in Psychoanalysis?

What scale calculates the weight on our conscience? Is there a mechanical, electronic, digital scale... that tells us how heavy our conscience is?

The weight on your conscience

If we are a bank manager, we are not going to make friends with bank robbers... If we are married, we are not going to go out drinking with single friends. If we work in a company, we are not going to be part of the employees who do wrong things in the company because they understand that directors are rich.

If we control the family's checking account, we are not going to be paying our private bills without authorization from everyone involved. If we are married, we are not going to criticize our spouse to other people. And so we can cite several and several examples.

These assertive behaviors show that we do not want to betray trust. And betraying trust should be a heavy weight on the conscience. The best way is not to fall into temptation

Conscious and unconscious reasons for heaviness in consciousness

Another great classic example, is if a person needs to go on a strict diet, he won't fill his house with chocolates, sweets, ice cream... Even better if family and friends help him... This is a fundamentally important line of thought in our lives: Difference between avoiding temptation and resisting temptation.

It is fundamental to manage the situations we put ourselves in, we need to avoid temptations. Sometimes this decision of not wanting to betray the trust, leads us to stay away from certain people. But if it is necessary, it is better to get out as soon as possible.

There are so many conscious and unconscious reasons to carry weight on our conscience. But we can certainly take some basic precautions, such as not betraying trust. Usually when we have done something wrong, at that moment we are not concerned about what effects and what weight it will have on our conscience.

The weight of behavior

And many times after a long time that we have committed a certain act or behavior it will become a burden, a problem. And there will be times that some attitude we take will leave us feeling the weight right away, And the curious thing is that later on the result of such an attitude can bring benefits to us and to other people.

I am reminded of the difficulty of raising children, how often we fail to have a harder attitude, to say no... And we already feel a weight on our conscience just thinking about being firm. And the fact of being firm with a child can create a pre-weight on our conscience, but also if the child becomes a problematic person, how big will be the weight?

This weight on our conscience is fun to write about, but very cruel when it starts to weigh on us.

The consequences

Other memories are also coming back, and I even find it funny how I used to have a weight on my back much heavier than I could bear when I had to go to church for confession, it was such a big weight for such silly things, but they were heavy, it hurt to talk to the priest...

But like a miracle, I had to say ten Hail Mary's and ten Our Father's and all the weight went away, I could start doing it all over again. I imagine myself now in a crowded soccer stadium, in a decisive game, at the end of the game I accidentally score the winning goal with my hand, and now, the WAR didn't detect it, the referee didn't see it?

I tell the truth or I tell the truth... Better to hold the weight of the champion's cup and have a weight on my conscience? There are times when this weight on our conscience makes us more and more confused. If there were a tribunal to judge this weight on our conscience, and my goal is that I never feel the weight, there would be jurors who would define whether I can feel the weight or not.

The Jurors

I get to choose the jurors. I wonder what kind of jurors I would choose, I have several options:

  • A jury composed only of psychoanalysts.
  • A jury composed only of psychopaths.
  • A jury composed only of neurotics.
  • A jury composed of ordinary people with few and shallow moral values?
  • A jury composed of unscrupulous businessmen.
  • A jury composed of corrupt politicians.

What is the best choice? Who can save me? Chapolin Colorado? How many things come into our thoughts when this topic comes up. The changes in moral values each seem to help reduce the size of the weight.

Final considerations

It seems that the less rigid the laws of society are, the easier it gets, the less weight we carry. But at the same time depression and anxiety increase, and those who can afford it increasingly seek treatment and medicine.

I want information to enroll in the Psychoanalysis Course .

And what about the great majority, who don't have access to treatments and medicines? Where do they create the capacity to bear the weight? Or don't even feel the weight? As the gaucho composer Lupcínio Rodrigues used to say in one of his lyrics: Thinking seems like a silly thing, but how we fly when we start thinking.

After thinking about it for so long, I am starting to make up my mind, and I advise you all, that if, from any moment on, this weight on my conscience starts to really weigh me down, I will look for my psychoanalyst. By the way, I wonder if the Analyst from Bagé is still there? He used to solve unsolvable problems over the phone.
